At work we have a ping-pong table. A lot of smack-talk has been goin’ on, and my forehand is becoming a force to be reckoned with. The dev team at Touchwood has been toying around w/ the idea of creating a ping-pong ranking system for some time now.

Whether my version cross-pollinates with the Touchwood version remains to be seen. I still think it would be a fun excersize for me to put my mid-level php & db skills to the test. The basic functionality would be as follows;

• Ability for players to enter match wins and losses.
• An algorithm that would sort players based on past performance, upsets, wins & losses.
• Maybe some fancy AJAX updating.

In my typical fashion of over-planning under-developing I’ve already come up w/ phase 2 features.

• User registration w/ league setup, probably on top of Drupal or similar.
• Email notifications w/ a dispute score feature.
• AIR widget that allows upload from desktop.
