Drowning in Curves

July 25th, 2008 · 5 Comments · Art, Code, Digital Process, Drawing

In the same masochistic way I let a ping-pong sorting algorithim rule my life, I’ve been obsessing on how to draw elegant fluid curves in AS3 via Flash’s drawing API. This mostly started from being inspired by Erik Natzke’s work.

Animal Friends

June 2nd, 2008 · No Comments · Art, Digital Process, Drawing

I was playing around with the topography generation I mentioned in my last post and made a few animal friends. I think the owl is my favorite.

Generating Topo Map Lines

May 31st, 2008 · 3 Comments · Art, Digital Process, Drawing

The last few days I’ve immersed myself in Math. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to generate lines that mimic topography with the ActionScript 3 Drawing API. I studied the math that goes into bezier cubic and quadratic curves, and investigated a little bit in Sin waves. All I ended up with was […]

Masterpiece

May 21st, 2008 · 2 Comments · Art, Comments on Process, Concept, Digital Process

A co-worker and I were recently drooling over some of Jonathan Harris’s more recent work. It made me realize that the projects I talk about here (and occasionally engage in) are very disconnected and hobby-ish. They do NOT form one cohesive body of work. They are more about the journey of trying different things almost […]

Drawrings

May 2nd, 2008 · 1 Comment · Analog Process, Art, Drawing

I’ve been doodling a bit, so I thought I’d post some sketches. These were made with Micron pens in a small watercolor book. These sketches along with this Etsy artist, has given me some inspiration to tackle some acrylic paintings on wood panels. So… stay tuned for that.

Circles 02

February 23rd, 2008 · No Comments · Art, Code, Digital Process

Here is a new version of the circles, it’s pretty much a matrix of the previous version. In the future I plan on exploring custom stroke patterns and a way to represent the breakdown of the soft outer shell of the walnut that leaves the hard dark brown center exposed.

Walnut Circle 01

Here is my first version of the random circle project. I might add a deep brown element, I’m also thinking about how to string these together in a pattern on a canvas.

Just a little while ago I made some comments about Chuck Close’s process. Since then I’ve revisited Joshua Davis’s site and downloaded his presentation from 07. For those that don’t know Joshua Davis, he is an artist that takes design elements and uses random math in Flash to position things, generating a thousand new compositions […]

January 19th, 2008 · No Comments · Analog Process, Art, Comments on Process

Okay, the holiday season is over, I’ve become accustom to the sleeping patterns of a newborn and I have just finished up on two freelance projects, which should lead to a return of activity here. After the TwitterFace project is complete, I’m thinking about going analog on the next project. I have recently obtained a […]

heberlie family tree

November 3rd, 2007 · No Comments · Art, Code, Concept, Digital Process

A semi-distant relative recently contacted me about one of my domains, heberlie.com. He said he’d always envisioned it being some kind of family history resource. I’ve always been curious about my family history. I received an interesting document about the name history and derivation of the heberlie name. I’m considering a flash family tree visualization […]
