Problem

Heat transfer fluid keeps chemical plants running, and it degrades. Operators pulled samples and then waited through slow back-and-forth with the lab to interpret the results. Miss the warning signs and you risk damaging very expensive equipment, unplanned shutdowns, or a serious safety incident.

My role

Led the delivery approach at Slalom as part of Eastman’s Digital Product Transformation.

What I did

Think 23andMe for heat transfer fluid. You send a sample to the lab and get back a clear report with recommendations, plus a single “fluid life” score that shows how healthy the fluid is and whether you’re heading toward equipment damage or a safety risk. Machine-learning output, turned into a number an operator can act on.

Outcome

  • 2025 IRI Award for Digital Innovation
  • 2024 Plant Engineering Product of the Year, Silver · BIG Sales & Marketing Technology Award
  • 2023 Process Heating & Cooling Innovation Award · BIG Artificial Intelligence Excellence Award
  • 2022 CIO 100, Enterprise Excellence · German Innovation Award, Excellence in B2B · ICIS Innovation Award, Best Digital Innovation · EIC Innovation and Company of the Year, North & Central America
  • 2021 Plant Engineering Product of the Year, Bronze · Vaaler Award · Process Worldwide Top 8 Emerging Technologies

What I’d do next

V2 is a service, not just a report: “fluid consulting as a service,” an upsell that puts Eastman’s scientists directly in customers’ corner.
